Basaveshwar Veerashaiva Vidyavardhak Sangha (BVVS) Bagalkot is established by His Holiness Shri Gurubasav Maha Swamiji of Bilur on 18-10-1906.
The Sangha is named after Shri Basaveshwar, a social reformer and a leader of literary revolution of 12th century.
The Sangha has been dedicated itself to the noble cause of dissemination of knowledge from its inception.
This premier educational organization runs a network of over 126 institutions right from the crèche level to Post Graduate & Doctorate level and 26 Hostels for Boys and Girls.
The network is spread over the districts of Bagalkot, Belgaum of northern Karnataka and Bengaluru.
More than four thousand five hundred employees and forty five thousand students derive benefit from this Sangha.
B.V.V.S. Polytechnic Bagalkot was started in the year 1958 under Grant-in-aid Code with Diploma programs in Civil, Electrical & Mechanical Engg., disciplines.
The management of the Institution is rested in governing council constituted by Sangha,. Polytechnic is affiliated to Board of Technical Examination, Bengaluru.
Automobile program was started in the year 1983, subsequently two more new programs namely Computer science and Electronics & Communication Engg., were added in 1986.
In 1998 non-technical program Commercial Practice has been started. In 2006 two more new programs Information Science and Instrumentation Technology have been started.
Till date our institute is running totally 9 diploma programs with new facilities increased from time to time.
Community Polytechnic scheme was sanctioned in the year 1986, same program after renaming it as Community Development
Through Polytechnic (CDTP), was sanctioned in the year 2009. World Bank Assistance scheme sanctioned in the year 1991, Canada-India Institutional Co-operation project (C.I.I.C.P) started in 1996.
From the academic year 1999- 2000, Polytechnic got academic autonomy from the Department of Technical Education Bengaluru. In the year 2000, Institute has been awarded as the “Best Polytechnic” during ‘Do It Yourself’ State Level Technical Exhibition conducted by DTE Bengaluru. Institution Faculty’s strength is 84, other Staff strength is 103 and students strength is more than 1500.
Community College have been sanctioned by MHRD-AICTE, Govt. of India, New Delhi from the year 2013-14, in order to provide opportunities for skill integrated flexible, relevant, affordable and lifelong learning for underprivileged youths of community to acquire an employable skill for their livelihood.
Skill training is being imparted in Automobiles, Manufacturing and Service Sectors.
